In Memory of My Father - Ben Southard

Ben Southard, 70, of West Lafayette, died at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Aug. 20, 1937, he was the son of the late Dr. Carl B. and Clara Meek Southard. He graduated from Noblesville High School in 1956 and received his bachelor of science degree from Purdue University in 1961. He had lived in West Lafayette since the mid-60s
He married Donna A. Toeppe on March 31, 1989, in Sevierville, Tenn. She survives.
Mr. Southard was an agronomist at Purdue for 38 years before retiring in 2002.
He was a member of Purdue Presidents Council, John Purdue Club and Purdue University Retirees Association. He enjoyed auctions and traveling.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Laura Patnaude (husband: Wayne) of Lafayette; two sons, Scott R. Southard of Indianapolis and Stephen B. Southard (wife: Kelley) of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Stacey Foltz of Lafayette and Jennifer Toeppe of Mesa, Ariz.; and a sister, Carolyn Callahan of Houston, Texas.
Visitation from 2 p.m. until the service time at 4 p.m. Sunday at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel. Interment Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis. Surviving are 7 grandchildren. He enjoyed eating breakfast at the Triple XXX every morning, where they named a sandwich after him.
